Thanks again for all the helpful comments. I wound up buying this combo at a cost much greater than planned; I blame the slick salesman. In any event it seems a good start out of which I won't grow any time soon:

The Strobe looks like a Sea & Sea YS-01 which has TTL and manual mode.
