We are planning a trip to Turks and Cacios in June. Our travel agent has a package offering us diving with Provo turtle and staying at Ocean Club Condos. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Marie

Welcome to Scubaboard! You might want to compare the package with one of the ones offered by Caicos Adventures. I have dove with both operators many times and my criticism of Provo Turtle Divers was that they were to quick to dump us in Grace Bay rather than making the boat trip to the much better diving off West Caicos or French Cay. I hear they now run out of the dock on the south side so that may no longer be the case. Caicos Adventures, however, still has a much better dive boat. Overall I like their operation much better. Check them out at: http://www.tcidiving.com/ In any event try and at least book the Thursday three-tank to French Cay with Caicos Adventures. It is not to be missed. Check with owner (Fifi Kunz) to make sure you reserve the right day. You will not be sorry.

Tim, thanks for your quick reply and welcoming. We certainly will check out Caicos Adventures. We are at the beginning stages of our planning so you may be seeing us around again. We are also considering Cayman Brac and Costa Rica. Any other tips will be appreciated.

I dove Cayman Brac January, 2002. If you are considering the Brac I would recommend checking out Little Cayman first. The diving on Bloody Bay Wall beats anything the Brac has to offer hands down. We stayed at the Conch Club Condos and can highly recommend them. We dove with the Little Cayman Beach Resort op. Also highly recommended. Little Cayman offers amazing walls but not much big stuff. Thats the advantage of Providenciales. The boat rides are a little longer (30-45 mins.) but with the big Caicos Adventures dive catamarran you don't even notice it. You get the big walls off West Caicos and French Cay (7,000 feet straight to the bottom) and you will see big stuff on nearly every dive (sharks, eagle rays, turtles). We have seen dolphins several times, heard and seen whales on two separate occasions, etc., etc.). I have been going for eight or nine years in a row now and can safely say, after diving quite a bit of the Caribbean, that my three all-time favorites are Providenciales, Cozumel and Little Cayman. I would return again and again to any of the three.

I mostly echo what Tim says. I will say that the Brac does have some great dives. The wall on the Brac does start at 60 where on LC it starts at 20. I have been fortunate to see some peligics every time I've been to the Brac. I've always seen eagle rays, always seen sharks, (not just nurse) black tips, bull, lemon, and hammerhead. I've seen Manta and dolphins. On Provo you will most likely see these things with more regularity like on nearly every dive compared to dive trip. When diving the Brac we always seem to get to LC for a number of dives as well. LC has the most stuff in MHO
other than the peligics, more colorful sponge and more species, more little things like the Flamingo tongues, lobster and shrimp species. No doubt about it T & C has more bigger value, when last there we saw the largest stingrays I've seen off West Caicos.
I also think that the viz is a bit better in the Caymans. Viz in Coz can be mind boggling, but I've seen the viz at LC reach over 200ft, you just have to hit the right weather.
I do believe that Caicos Adventures should be your choice if you go to Provo, you'll not be sorry to have chosen them for diving. Fifi knows the area, and will take you to some great dives
Dive Safe,
Caymaniac.

I tell you what Caymaniac, if you promise to give me the guided tour of the best dive sites I'll go back to the Brac again.

I'd say that you have some homework yet to do as Cayman Brac, Costa Rica (BTW, where in CR?) & Providenciales (within the TCI, Grand Turk is more like Cayman Brac than Provo) are all quite different both topside & u/w. You first need to decide what you want out of your total vacation package.

As regards Provo Turtle Divers & Caicos Adventures, I have dove with both on several occasions, most recently just last August. I was satisfied with both, although Fifi with Caicos Adventures is more of a character than any of the Turtle Divers' staff.

Best regards.

I was down there a year ago (or slightly less) with Provo Turtle Divers. I highly recommend them. I can't imagine a much better dive boat than "Chuck's Honey". We did the bulk of our diving in West Caicos with a day or so in Grace Bay.

I did hear that they changed management when Dave bought a majority share in the shop. He took us where HE would like to dive which meant long boat rides. And yes, they do have a dock on the south side of the island now. If you are down that direction, tell Dave, Melinda, Amos and Company that I said hi!
