It's not clear where your are diving for 7 days... But we spent maybe 4 days in the Tulum area diving cenotes last fall. We were like 5 miles north of Tulum (Tankah Bay) and we knocked that site (Tulum) off in about 1/2 hour (but we can do epcot in about 2 hours :-) ). If your 7 days of diving are in Cozumel and you are going to the mainland to kill a day, check out the centoes and skip the ruins (imho).

We're staying in Cozumel for 10 days, flying on 1 and 10, diving on days 2 thru 8 in Cozumel, then doing some ruins on the 9th day. I like Christy's idea of doing Tulum and Coba in one day. Chitchen Itza does sound nice but we don't have the time. The Tulum and a beach sounds nice too. I've already done San Gervasio and it's OK to kill a few hours on an afternoon. I did the cenotes two Cozumel dive trips ago, and even though I enjoyed it, didn't enjoy it enough to rush right back. No we didn't do Dos Ojos, but we did Taj Mahal and one other one and I guess it just didn't appeal to us as much as Cozumel diving. Besides, my gilrfriend really wants to see some ruins. I'll narrow it down to Tulum for sure and either Coba as well or one of those beaches you guys mentioned. How early can we get on our way there from Cozumel if we do the Tulum combo trip? I mean how early is the first boat ride over? And, is it best to rent a car and figure out how to do it yourself, or just get some package deal?

Thanks again for the always excellent info from you guys,
Matt

Matt,

First boat over is at 5:00am :) Then every hour on the hour. Most of the car rental agencies open up at 8:00. It is sooo easy to do on your own. There is absolutely no reason to pay for an organized tour. I can tell you exactly how to do it while you're here :)

Thanks Christy, I'll take your advice and seeing that we're diving with you, I'll get all of the info from you when we get there. I guess it doesn't do us much good to get to PDC too much earlier than the time that the car rental agencies open up!

Thanks everyone for all of the opinions and info,
Matt
