I am plnning to replace the battery in my Suunto spyder. I got an "opener" for watches which fits, but just when I was about to go ahead I thought ... If I open it now in this humid warn air won't I get lots of moisture in the device which will condense when it gets cold (in the water). Should I wait until winter or should I do it in a chilled room for food storage? Or does it not matter? Any thoughts anybody?

Rikard,

I've wondered about this, myself. I haven't had to change a battery, yet, but here's some thoughts. The volume of air inside a computer is pretty small so, even if the air is humid, the total amount of moisture will be pretty small. That said, there were two ways I came up with to get rid of as much of the moisture as possible. The first is to reassemble the computer inside a car with the air conditioner on full blast. One of it's functions is to dehumidify the air and if you set it to recirculate the interior air in the car you can drop the humidity a good amount. The other idea I had was to use a large plastic bag and tank air. My thought was to put the parts in the bag and flush the air with tank air a few times before sealing it up.

To be honest, I don't really know if either of these would really work. But, it's worth a try.

I see you haven't posted in over a month. I hope you haven't left already.

IMHO, for what it's worth, humidity is not a big issue; although the precautions mentioned above wouldn't hurt

I think cleanliness and proper sealing (lubricating the o-ring with silicone grease/correct installation/cleanliness again) are much more important

Hello,

thanks for the replies.

What I ended up doing was putting it in the server room at work for a couple of hours and then assembled it. The room has a cooler and condensor. Hopefully, this will be better than nothing.

good plan that,a server rooms air should be a great deal drier than ambient air
