Hello,

Haven't posted for a while, too busy scubaing!

Did my first OW, and it was terrific, saw loads of stuff and generally spend the entire time with a huge grin on my face! :D

But...I could not get back into the bloody boat. I had to be dragged out of the water like a beached whale.

Does anyone have any tips on how best to get out? I'm kinda short and fairly...um...well rounded! That's the only bit I have a problem with!

Thanks in advance

Hi NauticalbutNice

First I need to have a clearer picture in my mind. So please I need to know the following to give you the right information

1. I know that it is not a polite question, but I really need to know how old are you?
2. What was the sea condition?
3. What kind of boat are we talking about i.e(speed boat, infaltable boats, liveaboard...etc)
4. Where were the DM or the instructor?

FWIW we sometimes let our guests take off, in addition to their fins, their BCD and weightbelt in the water (all depending on sea conditions). Makes getting out a bit easier, that is until you get used to the whole procedure.

No problemo!

1) I'm 22.
2) Sea was ok, quite calm, little bit of waves.
3) Boat's speed boat
4) Instructor was in the boat - had the job of pulling me out of the water!

Hope that helps

hmm, from bonnie scotland, not to many deep fried mars bars causing it ?? :eyebrow:

at the end of my very first O/W dive, took the BCD/Tank etc off, with fin and boat handler asistance, came out the water like a missile (skinny sod you see) crashed into the deck and cut my arms and legs.. dam embarrasing :11: ..so even if you can get out, it does not mean you do not make an *** of yourself

Cheers

Jim

Thanks!

Did take off tank/bcd and weights though.

Must work on that upper body strength!

You know, sometimes I still "have problems" getting back into the boat...

'specially with a cute DM!!

All joking aside, it's totally normal, and awkward for the first little while. it just takes a while to get used to. You'll be able to do it in no time!

It's really embarrassing - no ladder and I'm flailing around like a beached whale! Mind you I guess this really isn't the sport for the dignified!

My goodness - no ladder on a speedboat?

Well no wonder!!!! There's nothing wrong with you - that sounds like a James Bond exit!
