I am probably opening a huge can of worms. If I am I am sorry. I am just curious.

I am curious how online dive shops get there merchanidise and sell it so cheap. Are they buying directly from Manufactures or from other sources. If so why can they sell them so cheaply. Do they buy in bulk and then dont give warrenties?

Yes and No to all of the above is the quick answer. The more important answer is that some shops stink and others are very good, regardless of wether they are online or on your street. Of course some are both and I personally feel that most LDS's will have to go this route eventually if they want to stay in business. The internet has changed the concept of what "local" is and many online shops provide surprisingly good service and even better price from across the country. I don't believe that a shop being local means that it has better service or that a shop online is better for any other reason. Great service comes from a shops business philosophy and not its location.

Don't worry about the can of worms. Someone opens it weekly here. Personally, I have purchased from both store front shops and from online stores. I tend to lean towards online shops though.
