Nevis Diver:
Please tell me you aren't supposed to go nekkid on your 100th because I will be dong mine on Coz in September.
Coz would be the perfect place, nice warm water...

Bo - you beat me to it!

Christi - Welcome home. Glad you had a good trip. The hammerhead shots are great. I showed them to Sandy, and all she said was, "Not me." Will you be posting a Spanish version of your trip report? ;)

You folks that like hammerheads so much might think about doing a dive in La Paz. My all-time favourite dive was there - a school of hammerheads at, I think, around 80 or 90 feet. I think the side is El Bajo but I don't have my log book in front of me. It's pretty easy to get to (fly into Los Cabos). There's probably a ton of postings on this if you get out of the Cozumel section of the board and just go to Mexica.

That's only 'cuz Sandy hadn't been at it long enough! :D Few more dive trips, and she'll be wishing to run into critters like that also. I know I can only hope to see that many sharks in one place! Yes, one day, Cocos will be mine...

Yeah! In a past-perfect tense! :eyebrow:

And to keep the double entendre going in this thread..... she has to be careful that there aren't any dangling participles.

Not to my knowledge. In the last five years there are only three reported sightings that I am aware of. These sightings were all single shark sightings, in 60ish feet if water around twilight time.

We saw a hammerhead in May at devils throat. We were at about 140 feet. Don't know if you heard about this one, but Jeremy Anschel can confirm it.

Hey Cat,

Yes, I actually do remember Jeremy telling me about that one. I also forgot about the one I saw a few years ago at Maracaibo deep...he was also very deep...we were at 140ish and he was a good 30 feet below us. They are definitely out here...just usually very deep. In the isolated sightings when they are shallow, they are actually hunting and have not been seen in groups, only as singles. I imagine if you were to go deep enough and out in the channel, you may find some groups of them...

I did El Bajo looking for hammerheads -- three or four times, as I remember -- against a heavy current with nothing to see but a nekkid sea mount at 80 ft. The guys at Club Cantomar said, "this isn't the prime season so you'll only see hundreds and not thousands of hammerheads." I'd have loved to see _one_ but, alas, there were none to see. Pretty frustrated with that dive and that operator. I guess they hadn't seen hammerheads in the summer in ages but they still promoted them heavily. At the very least, they could have dropped us upcurrent of the dive site so that we didn't get so winded while being disappointed. ;)

My understanding is that you need to go in November if you want to see hammerheads at El Bajo. Expect high, cold seas.
