just remember, weddys are not tiny things...they are about 30cms long

every time we take someone diving to see their first weedy they usually say they were expecting small seahorse size and they are surprised by how big they are

cheers

One quick mention as well: it's a bit of a hike out of Sydney, but if you can arrange to get to Shellharbour (bout an hour and a half south if I remember correctly), go to Shellharbour Scuba and see Mick -- the diving off Bass Point is really relaxed most days, and I've got lots of pics of turtles, sharks, rays, seals and Weedys too from my time diving there. Really good shop, and if you call ahead of time, Mick'll pretty much do anything for you short of standing on his head (and he might do that for the right price!) Reasonable rates for all and a great easy day of diving, IMHO. Tell him Steve the Canadian sent ya, and say HI to all from me!

Oh, and not knocking Sydney -- I started my diving with Abyss and there are some terrific sites there -- I really enjoyed Shelly Beach for its ease of access (walk right off the beach) and aquatic life - actually shot a pic of an alleged Great White there (no one seems to be able to pin it down 100 percent). Viz was great there, and I saw lionfish, octopus, beautiful cuttlefish and more. Bare Island was good, and Oak Park in Cronulla, while not over exciting for exotics, was FULL of fish and a really comfy dive. Man, I miss Australia!!!!! I'd recommend Jamie at Abyss if you go, with the requisite Hello's from Steve the Canadian, if you would please. Tell em I want to come do my IDC there in March! :)

Have a great trip -- boy, I envy you! (I'd be your personal dive guide for the price of a plane ticket!! hee hee heeeeeeeeeeee.... :)

im told manly has weedys but ive never seen one in my 10yrs of diving it (will be diving Shelley this sunday btw)

you can find weedies at the deeper reef at shelly beach - not against either of the walls. you need to plan for about a 1hr dive to see them & water clarity hasn't been good on the occasions i've been there.

unfortunately i won't be at shelly this sunday, else i'd take you to see. maybe next time

How did you go??? ... did you get a dive in and see some weedies???

Hope you had fun even if you didnt see any.

Hi, thanks for the msg - sadly, flights changed yet again, and I ended up in conference rooms for the whole trip rather than under the sea. So I'll have to wait til next time. On the bright side, Sydney was lovely - quite a city you've got.
And regardless, really appreciate all the advice! It will be useful for the next trip! :)

Oh bummer, conferences and no diving.

Glad to be able to help ... hope you can get back soon and see some weedies
