My wife and I are going on a cruise in February. The cruise was chosen for its ports for dives. We are stopping in Cozumel, Cancuun, Belize and Roatan.

Any suggestions on dives and dive shops to work with at each stop would be greatly appreciated. Average stop is 8-12 hours so plenty of time. We are both recently certified but still inexperienced.

My favorite day dive op on Roatan is SubWay, far and awy the most professional. You can go pester flipper over at Anthony's Key along with everybody else on your ship, or you could do one of the best "Shark Feed" dives in the Caribbean at Wiakula ("The Italians") who are the only day dive op that goes to Cara a Cara (Face to Face) from their location just E of the Airport in Dixon Cove. All in all, come to Roatan to see 'the small stuff', tell your DM that (if you have great buoyancy).

Cruise ship divers can not legally dive the fabled Mary's Place, but not only is it no big loss, but some still manage to sneak in (without the required 30 minute film and 45 minute lecture on the site and buoyancy + one buoyancy check-out dve first) and do their damage.

Find SubWay at http://www.subwaywatersports.com/

I agree with Roatanman, subway is nice for the South side. If you want to see the North side there are lots of dive ops to chose from and most of the resorts can arrange something as well. www.roatanet.com has contact information for most of them as well as a section for cruise visitors. Hope this helps, have fun on your cruise!

I second all about Subway. Did a dive with them in late September. Met at dock. no hassles. very professional.

In Belize, decide if you're prepared to fly to a dive center and fly back again after diving. If so, check out San Pedro (lots of dive centers). If not, use Sea Sports Belize or Hugh Parkey's Belize Dive Connection.
