Once you have the Tech skin, does anyone still bother with the Lycra?

I'm ready to order my Fusion, just waiting the remaining couple of weeks for the 2Xl/3Xl tech skin to be released. I'm just debating now whether to purchase the Lycra and the Tech together, or just the tech with pockets. Has anyone who owns the tech skin found a reason to put the lycra back on? Or are you 100% tech skin now?

Thanks,
Jim

Jimmer, I just ordered mine with the Tech skin...Ya, ya...I know I was waiting till they were released...I have only dove the Lycra so far, but I will be diving the tech skin this weekend in Southern Il....Not too many people have the tech skin yet...I have only shipped out a few and its pretty new. I will post back after this weekend and let you know, but honestly, I will probably use the tech skin 99% of my dives....If I decide to go to the Keys or somewhere and take the drysuit, I would probably throw the Lycra on just to save on weight, but their isnt much of a weight difference and I would probably take a 3mm.....BUT that would be when I would use both(from what I know at this point) that opinion could change though after this weekend....Hope that helps ;)

Definetly give an update after you've had a chance to dive the tech skin. I'll be another couple weeks before ordering anyway, so I'm definetly looking forward to hearing your review.

I did just have a guy that after his first dive, his BP somehow put a hole in the lycra when removing his rig......We know just ordered his Tech skin and he is going to patch his lycra....Most have told me they havent had an issue, but to be honest....Metal vs lycra....Who do you think will win in a snag competition?

I currently dive an Oceanic Excursion, so I wont be much help with snagging, but I wonder if a backpad would alleviate any snagging issues....Could be due to individuals rig preferences as to the best choice of suit or combination of suits

Hey Jimmer,
I just started diving my tech skin full time with those AWESOME 6X11 pockets. Up until then I have been using the Lycra skin. I definitely appreciate the weight and mobility of the Lycra skin but the one drawback was no pockets. I think if you plan to use your FUSION for different types of diving it might not be such a bad idea to have both. If I was going to dive the tropics and diving in 80 degree water I would still use my Fusion but I definitely would not want to use my tech skin. 1. The extra weight of the tech skin would add to my over all luggage, which with the lycra skin the suit only weights anywhere between 3 to 5 pounds pending on the size. 2. I want to be as free as possible when diving warm water, this skin and suit in combination with the NEW! Whites MK0 bamboo john is way more comfortable then taken your 3mm for dive travel. I am not suggesting that the lycra skin is just for warm water dives because I use it all the time on the west coast and find that it accommodates my MK3 undergarment very well. So whether you want to cut a hole in the ice or dive the tropics this suit is your one suit solution. I hope that helps!

Well the tech skin got all botched up and my local rep was able to at least get me a fusion in my size....I was sold out and my order didnt make it :( BUT I did my first open water dives in the lycra and MK3 in 47 degree water...went down to 40 feet was about 44 degrees...was extremely comfy, not too hot, not cold, no real squeeze, bouyancy seemed perfect although it was a night dive and viz was only 5 feet anyway so no one could tell me otherwise...

SOooooo

I know I have used the suit minimally, and sold alot, but I finally had a chance to get some real dives(more to come) and I really do love this suit so far!! My only complaint is that the kneepads end at my knee ;) I did need to be zipped up by a buddy like others were saying, its just that last little bit I couldnt get....I will try and post more, but I still want the tech skin, the pockets alone, make it a perfect match for my diving plus the added protection with the 1mm....

I will post more after the weekend and extensive dives :D

Mike

Have both, and the only reason I could see for putting the lycra back on would be to save weight and bulk on a trip. However not much of a saving and you lose the pockets so...probably wouldn't bother. Don't think the tech skin adds much re warmth either but have not dived the suit with just lycra so this is just opinion.

Can you even get the fusion without the lycra skin?i
