Just joined up to the Sub Aqua at Uni last week - finished the swim test (far too cold for an indoor pool!!) and waiting in expectation for thur night! Have a mixed feeling of excitement and fear (but then again that's how I felt about windsurfing and horse riding so I'm guessing that's my natural reaction)

Any advice on the mental end of things? I am one of those pedantic folk that like to know all about something before they get into it so I feel in control and prepared......really great fun with horses I'm guessing there'll be alot of accepting lack of control with diving too!!

Been reading up on the basics, clearing mask, reg recovery, fin pivot etc - the swim test didn't feel great for me but the water was very cold so I'm thinking my wetsuit will be travelling with me this week.

But any little gems of wisdom are welcome!!:D

Hi there welcome on :sblogo:

As for the wisdom :shakehead:
Just sit back, relax and have FUN.:D

welcome aboard

Thanks folks, it's been a week of getting excited and being reassured (which means I have more energy to get excited!!)

haven't had a chance to get the gear on yet (still waiting for our memberships to go through) but even our snorkle session last week and a round of duck diving to retrieve stuff off the bottom of the dive pool has settled my nerves and I'm looking forward to it more and more :D

Welcome ,There is some great diving in the west and the water is still warm.

well only had my membership come through end of last week and I've had a bit of a cough all weekend so.....will have to see how I'm holding up on thur night whether I'll be able to get into the water or not!

I'm afraid I'm a good distance away from doing any open water dives this year (all dictated by college I'm afraid!) but if I get a good amount of my pool sessions done before finishing for the hols I'll be happy!

and then maybe next year! I'll need a break from my work experience in the Equine CSI lab!

thanks for the goodwill :)
