They teach us to put the mask down around our neck or take it off. I have a atomic aquatics frameless mask. When I wear it down around my neck it feels constricting, big bulky, and I can't look down. I hate it. I have gotten used to the idea to spin it around using the neoprene strap cover of the mask on my forehead. Basically the mask sits on my forehead backwards. Maybe not textsbook, but again like they say, whatever your comfortable with.

From years of Surfing, who needs a stinking mask, unless your going down?

I like my mask on my face. It is, after all, called a "Face Mask" for a reason.

I leave my mask on my face and my regulator in my mouth until I am back on the boat. It's the safest thing to do while you are still in the water.

i was tuaght to switch from reg to snorkel on the surface but the reg is so much easier lol but my instructor killed me for my mask round my neck reg in and surface swimming

Though I'm new to diving I prefer to just leave it on my face. Sometimes if I'm going to be on the surface for awhile I will put it on facing bacwards on my head, but is just to much work if you only going to be on the surface to only a few minutes. Now if I'm talking to my buddy I might take it off jet because it would be easier to talk.

Anytime your mask is on your head, you are at risk of losing it. I guess if you are in flat water like a quarry or the bathtub it wouldn't make any difference. Almost all of my dives are in the ocean where there are waves which can get your mask off your head before you catch it.

I wear my mask on my face because there are big waves. Why would you let spray get into your eyes and blur your vision in big seas? I have been in some pretty big sea states and have never thought I might lose my mask when it's been in position. Strong currents when you are down are a different matter but on the surface, never.

Many divers hate to do the mask clear drill when they start diving and a lot of divers don't like to get too much salt water in their eyes because it stings, so why would they take it off on the surface?

In salt water, I prefer to leave it on my face. I place my mask on the back of my head in fresh water.
