I am a certified Nitrox diver, however, it's been a couple of years since I have taken the class. Before I dive with Nitrox again I'd like to get a refresher. I plan on auditing the class again at my LDS, they offer free auditing, but before I do this I'd like to "brush up" on it so they are going over it again rather than me hearing it fresh or fresher.

I did a search and know there are on-line classes that offer certification for a fee, but that isn't what I want or need since I do not need to be certified. Are there any sites that offer the class, or just hits the high points, but not the certification.

Thanks!

I have a .pdf file that I downloaded off the net that is the basic course. PM me with an email address if you're interested, and I'll send it to you. It's only 580k in size.

I'm curious to see the pdf, too. But, to the OP... couldn't you just go over your books again?

I agree, to me the books were pretty self explainatory... no room for a misunderstanding.

I have a Word doc that has all PADI's EANx class examples in a workbook - saves time writing on a board and having people try and read my writing if you wish, email me and I can attach it

if this is the PADI Nitrox class, the book pretty much was the class for me at least. Our "class" consisted of watching a video that didn't really add anything to the book. I agree just reading the book again makes sense.

nitrox training is pretty much straight-forward just like OW training. the most important part of the whole thing is that you personally should verify the contents of your own tank & know how to compute for your MOD and ppO2 for a particular gas blend. You also must be fully aware of these figures or else risk oxygen toxicity if you go over.

hey firefyter & hobster, sent you a PM requesting the documents! :)

i am already nitrox cert. my self but i would like to see this web site you can get your cert. over the net. thats crazy. its a basic skill i agree but i have met alot of people that cant perform basic skills. and dive shops arent going to ask any questions if you have a card there just going to give you your mix and then someone might kill your self

You can't just get the card. you do the online course work then they send you a form that you take to your lds for verification, take a short test/quiz and analyze a tank. Then the lds returns the form to the agency and then you get your card. You still have to do hands on stuff. We also still strongly advise you to do a couple dives with us even if the agency does not.

I think PADI had an online class but doesn't do it anymore. Probably because without the dive component, there would be hardly any reason left for people to go to the shop (and pay them) for it.

Honestly, aside from hands on use of a analyzer, I don't think there's anything you can't get out of an online Nitrox class than you wouldn't get from a regular class, or by just reading the book. (Except if you are confused on something and need to ask - then you could ask here. :) ) I'm in the camp that for your basic rec Nitrox cert you don't learn anything additional by doing a couple dives with it.

It's true that if you have a card the shop won't ask questions. But you could just as easily have a card from a "regular" Nitrox class, yet be clueless and lacking in basic skills.
