I have an OMS IQ Pack with a 6 lb steel backplate and use an STA. I purchased a wing that is compatible with single and double tanks, and gives me 60 lbs. of lift. I dive both wet and drysuit in cold water environments. I use steel 90 LP tanks and am looking to start getting into double set ups.

My question is wondering about the wing and if there are any thoughts about any issues I may have using it for single tank dives?

I do a lot of beach dives as well as wreck dives, so doubles are not necessary in all types of diving that I do.

A wing that large will not work well for singles. Anyone who claims a wing can "work for both singles and doubles" is straight up wrong. Its marketing shenanigans.

A wing is just a bag to put gas into underwater. There should be no issue for you at all, as the 60# OMS is not an overly large wing. The bigger issue that some have is with wings that are specifically designed for doubles. With these, you'll find the 'dead space' designed to be under the tanks on doubles, when worn with singles, tends to cause some excessive wrap around the tanks. Some refer to this as the 'taco' effect. It tends to trap air higher in the wing, making it a bit more challenging to either dump it, or to balance it from side to side. Not insurmountable at all, the 'donut' wing is a relatively new convention, and for the past 20 years i, and thousands of others, have dove horseshoe shaped wings, knowing I needed to bring my head up higher to allow gas to pass from one side to the other.

Just dive it.....and have fun!
