It slides in behind the backpad. I am not sure how the stability and durability would compare to a conventional backplate.

I am considering my next backinflate/BP/Wing purchase and am really more interested in OMS's backplate and comfort harness system. It seems to offer the advantges and simplicity of a backplate with the advantages of a harness.

What is the pricing on the comfort harness?

Can you attach the Halycon Eclipse to OMS
backplates?

If you search for OMS IQ you will probably find some of my older posts.

I have a buddy who dove with an OMS IQ for a while. He used it with a DR Trek wing and then a Pioneer 27.

At the time, the OMS plate did not have cam band slots and he used an STA. Pretty much any BP will fit.

He has since moved on to a DR plate with their adjustable harness. Again with the Pioneer 27.

I am still using the harness and plate that I started diving with. I personally don't think that the IQ adds anything. There are people who like them.

Which reminds me. I saw a group of divers at 40 Fathom who were using IQs with big OMS wings. The bungied ones. 80 or 100 feet, I think. They seemed to work Ok.

edit: I didn't see anything untoward about their equipment config. However, the 2 rather more experienced divers that I talked to thought that it was junk. Go figure. Maybe this was a clash between the NE wreck diver and SE cave diver mentality? OMS seems to be a bit better accepted up there than it is here in FL.

I agree, I don't think the type of plate matters, or the wing. So long as holes are 11 inches to centers.

One thing I have noticed with the IQ is it's very broad shoulder spacing. The rig comes with a chest strap and it needs it. For me the harness rides way too far down on my shoulders. Feels like the unit is going to slip off of me. I suppose a big fella would be fine with it but it wan't to comfortable for me.

Pdoege, Thanks for the info. Thats funny that you mentioned the NE thing. I just took my OW Cert. back in June and did my dives at Ginnie Springs. I was looking at the equipment in the store there and I sked about how what they carry compares to OMS because thats what a lot of my buddies use and she told me "OMS is New England wreck diver stuff.":) I don't think she even knew that I was from Boston. I saw that S&W plate for $70 and I think that might be the way to go.

PacNWdiver, That sounds right on the money for me, I just happen to have a rather broad chest size 54-58 depending on the brand of jacket:D Thanks for the info.

I have an OMS IQ pack, it came with an ABS plate, with doubles that is fine with a single tank I would prefer a stainless plate that way I won't need a weight belt if using an LP cylinder.

I don't use the IQ pack anymore because I use a Halcyon Eclipse wing with a SS Backplate, or use the same BP with doubles and the OMS redundant bladder wing.

There isn't anything wrong with the IQ pack, it is just not as streamlined as the BP and Wing configuration.

For some reason OMS is not that highly regarded down here in Florida and I am not sure why, I have not had any major problems with any of the OMS equipment that I have.

bgbill once bubbled...

Most likley because that's Halcyon backyard... OMS makes some nice gear, IMO, they were slow to react to the DIR less is more wave. They still offer their traditional gear, but as you have noticed, added a bunch of new configurations. I have to admit I've sold most of my OMS equipment for Halcyon.

I see a lot of the backplates that are for sale (used) come with a harness. I'll probably buy one of those and then I can try both and see what I like better:) Thats why I was wondering about if you can use any plate with the IQ Pack or if the OMS plate is really required?
