I'm thinking about buying the OMS IQ with the 32lb single (travel) wing, does anyone have any experience with this setup ? Obviously I've been looking at the Dive Rite TPII with travel wing. Does anyone have an opinion as to which is better ? why to get one over the other ( both are fairly competitively priced however the OMS system is a bit kinder to my wallet)
Any thoughts appreciated
Thanks

The Dive Rite is an older design (with a very slightly lower lift capacity) and you have the option of a shoulder dump. The OMS is aimed at the DIR market and the design is very similar to Halcyon’s (no shoulder dump, more streamlined design). I’m not sure about this, but you might need to use a single tank adaptor (STA) with the OMS wing (OMS calls it a BCA290-K Single Cylinder Adapter). Check out Oxycheq’s wings too—many people on this board have good things to say about them and the price is competitive.

Have you considered a backplate and wing? I have used a Transpac-type harness/backpad BC for years and have recently switched to a bp/w setup. If you know someone who could lend you a bp/w setup and can help you setup, give it a try.

I don't know much about the OMS travel wing but I do know the Oxycheq is a really well built and reasonably priced wing.

My dealings with OMS have not been what I would expect from a company that talks a lot about customer service but my expereince with Oxycheq and its dealers was fantastic.

Another bonus with Oxycheq is that they will do mail order and you will still get the warrenty. I don't know if the other companies offer this service.

I did like the option of the shoulder dump but now that I've gotten used to not having it, I'm quite happy never to use a shoulder dump again. Besides, it's one less thing you have to maintain.

I do have an OMS wing for doubles and it has served me well over the years. But, I will probably not buy another since I LOVE my Oxycheq.

Either will probably work well, but take a look at some other companies before making your final decision. Who knows you might turn up something you like even better.

Funny you should ask. I just got the exact setup that you are considering. I’ve only had it in the pool once so my experience with it is limited but…

So far so good. It gives great stability underwater and little tendency to shove you forward on the surface. It seems pretty well made, at least as good as the Dive Rite Transpac.

I chose it on the recommendation of my LDS who could both. Price was about the same. I liked the fact that you can add a back-plate if you want. I do wish the wings had a shoulder dump but I seldom used the dump on my old BC.

BTW, OMS was backordered and it took some time to get the IQ Pack.

Good luck!

I love mine. I have been diving with it almost 5 years now. I took the bungies off to see what the difference was and they have stayed off.

I have a FredT backplate that stays in it most of the time and the STA is always attached.

I've been happy
