I considered a comfort harness but went with a pivot ring harness and a set of neoprene shoulder pads instead. Same effect, less money, more durable.

Well...while not exactly like DiveRites deluxe harness, it is very similar. The techies and DIR guys will give you heck because of the quick releases. But I like the way mine is set up. It is much easier to get into and adjust and get out of.....for me. And since I will never go a mile down with 32 tanks hanging off of me...it works just fine.

Look at what you plan to do and see if it meets your needs.

And do what feels right for you.

FWIW, the Dive Rite TransPlate harness (pretty much the same thing as the Comfort Harness) which I use was much easier to set up.

I dived a lot with just a backplate and wing; after a while, I added padded shoulder straps which were nice on my 1mm suit; when Abyss liquidated his inventory, I bought two of his padded harnesses, and they are great. I also paid $34 each for them with a bunch of freebies thrown in as well.
If you go between singles and doubles a lot, the padded harnesses can be a little time consuming to rig, and doing it on a moving dive boat would not be fun.
Also, the backplate slides inside these things, and I had an unsecured 6-pound steel plate come sliding back out and right onto my right big toe. There were sailors down here who had to cover their ears over my language that day.
I like the comfort of the padding in the back, and it all just molds itself to you. I wouldn't spend too much on one of these though - the plain old plate itself is plenty comfortable, and with the slip-on shoulder pads, you avoid lots of wear-and-tear on your shoulders and divesuit.

I dive the OMS harness. Setting it up is not a problem for anyone over 10 who can read:) I ditched the shoulder pads after one dive. They are far too bulky and stiff and only get in the way. The reason I got the harness over the standard harness I had is for the chest strap and adjustment capability which I like because I dive in different suits and environments frequently and readjusting the non-adjustable standard harness was a pain. I've never had any quick release on any gear fail ever so I consider it to be a non-issue. If it was broke I would either fix it or not make that dive. Underwater there is little stress on them and even on land they are rated for more than the entire rig weighs anyway. Overall I like the harness and have trimmed mine down to the bare minimum of extra webbing that allows me to go between diff. exposure protection easily.
