Does anybody know where I can buy an OMS Phantom canister light recharger? I love the light, but the charger got ruined recently. I'm not about to spend another 800 bucks to buy a new light. Any help would be [-]greatly[/-] immensely appreciated. :D ~~Thanks (I talked to OMS btw just in case that is your suggestion)

Their main headquarters is right down the street from me, so I stopped in and asked, they said their guy who could help me is out of the country for over a week. They were very friendly, this backing up my loyalty to their products, but I need this charger as soon as I can get it.

So you already called OMS...let me guess here, They said "there sorry but that lite is no longer in production"...and of course no parts are available.(I could be wrong). If you can't get the part, make it! You need to find out the voltage and the amperage of the old unit (original OMS) Check around for a "match" from any other manufacturer. If any plugs etc. are needed .....use the old ones. In the end Votage is voltage and amps are amps. Nothing special.....just the amounts vary between different sizes.

What kind of battery is it?
There are a ton of aftermarket chargers for Lead Acid, NiMh, NiCd and Li ion. Some as cheap as $5.

You really don't need one that says OMS.

Hey... Diver dan... Electronics do not care about "used" or not. The work or they don't!No wear and tear. Batteries...particularly rechargeable ones Do care. I really would not go that "used" route. You could sell your old one could you not? Go new... get the OEM (oms) or go with a good manufacturer of maybe a better battery than you had. Ligther, smaller, longer lasting , (the six million dollar battery) You have the head...the body can always be changed out.....

This would not be my advise........:no

My advice is get a universal charger (like the Maha MHC777-II). As this is an older light, the batteries are most probably Ni based and not Li. (verify chemistry before anything)The above charger can charge any voltage between 2.7V and 22V. I am pretty sure the light you have is somewhere in the 12-14V range. (post 6 had it right)

No need to go new, no need to replace body. Don't mess with that, if you have no leaks now and the cord is fine, count yourself lucky, leave it alone.

Of course if money is no object, and you want the latest and greatest.....go smaller and newer.

I disagree on a bit on a few things. (or didn't complely understand your post)

1) Get a good commercial charger for the battery type you have. Each has specific charging requirement based on type and capacity. Why re-invent the wheel when $5-$50 would get you what you need. Also don't mix types. Some are current controlled, some voltage controlled.

2) Battery. If you replace the pack, get the same size, capacity and type of pack. Your canister was made for it and its always easier to get what it was designed for. Changing a can is a pain in the you know what. Unless you really want to change the characteristics of the can that is.

Double check that price on the OMS charger you found. MAP pricing on it is around $93. We have top tier pricing with OMS since we are one of the bigest dealers, and I can't even buy it from them at dealer price for $50.
