...well kids, broke down and bought my 1st AL80 (Thanks Scubatoys!). Shot-blast finish, boot, thermo 'convertable' valve......just under $ 150 + sale tax. I've owned only steel (both HP and LP singles, LP doubles......either PST or Faber) except for a couple of AL 'pony' bottles, but as I usually end up diving AL 80's on the majority of dive trips involving air travel anyway, thought I'd buy one so I can do the pool or lake 'thing' to dial in bouyancy when I change/update gear/wetsuit configurations, and I'm not fond of having to bother to return 'rental' AL80's, a bit of a hassle.

...nothing terribly profound here, just a little excited, that's all...plus it's something I'd kicked around for quite a while now, and finally just did it, just makes it a little easier to prep for trips now, a nice little bonus....so, how was YOUR day today? :)

You can't tell?? The wind blew 20 knots from the east and scrubbed the diving plans :depressed:

Yer goooonnnnaaaa die !!!!!!!!!!
:rofl3:

...I put my ear up close to the tank and didn't hear any ticking noises, so I think I'll be OK...... I'm hoping having the boot in the official DIR-approved jet-black color will spread some good karma...:)

...at least you're not a 5-6 hr one way high speed drive from a divable coast ! ... and then an 8 hr one way boat ride to the dive sites !

I own 2 Al80s, fixing to go dive them tonight as I'm saving my LP95s for the boat diving tomorrow :D . I personally like having a set of backup tanks for stunts like tonite where I would be completely unable to get fills between dives, or when friends visit so we don't have to go out renting tanks.

That being said, I just called a set of doubled HP100s on the local craigslist. I'm going to break them down and run them as singles for a while because I'm just not ready for dubs quite yet, but soon they will banded back up. I'd rather run those as doubles as opposed to my LP95s (which I also bought doubled them broke them down to singles) because I'm not a big guy and I think my back would like me much more. Doubling the 80s would just be suicide as the savings in tank weight would be outdone by the need for weightbelt weight.

Peace,
Greg

yup, my fav 'dubs' are my LP 85's....also have a set of lp 76's (Fabers), and if I were in the market for more/new 'dubs' today, I'd go for either Worthington LP 85's or Worthington HP 100's...all my tanks are steels, either HP PST's or LP Fabers. Dove doubled Faber LP 95's years ago for a 'tech' class, and while I could handle them, (years ago, anyway) they're a bit heavier on land than I really want to schlep around, so my ideal ones would be HP 100's or LP 85's these days. Have also used doubled AL80's for some cavern/cave dives a few yrs ago in Akumal/MX.

It just feels a little wierd to be a steel 'fan' and find myself buying an AL 80 tank...it usually works the other way 'round ! :) (have 9 single steels and 2 steel 'doubles', and now this new AL 80)
