has anyone real-life underwater experience with the stylus 1030sw and the pt-043?

how do pictures come out in the u/w modes?

I used one last weekend in Puerto Rico. Actually the pictures were okay for the first time using it. With a good strobe/flash and some more experience and it will be a damn good camera.

thank you, fathomer!

These two albums were taken with the Olympus 1030SW- bear in mind while viewing that I am a new diver and new underwater photographer, so any poorly framed or blurred shots are probably my fault, not the cameras :)

I am very happy with the quality of the pictures and the ease of use of the camera itself. The underwater video comes out great too, IMHO. It also takes fantastic above water pics as well. I've had mine down to 40 feet so far with no trouble at all.

The ONLY issue I've had is that the battery will fit in incorrectly (easily), so you have to be sure to put it in correctly and test the cam before getting in the water. Probably obvious, but it took missing some great shots to teach me that lesson. Also, the battery in my experience will last through about 2 hour long dives and then it's done. I leave mine on almost that whole time because by the time you power up a camera, usually the shot is gone, so I just let it run. I predict that the battery will need replacing from using it so much, but we'll see.

Don't listen to the naysayers. I have the 770SW in the PT035 housing and I am very pleased with it and it does just as good as the much lauded Canon 570IS. Your 1030SW should be even better. I highly recommend the Inon UFL 165 lens, adapter and the D2000 strobe if you can find the money because it will produce excellent pictures.

Side by side my Oly 770SW just really kicks tail on the Canon. It works just fine in auto and with some minimal knowledge is a fun camera to play with.

Those are great photos Nemrod. I recognize Ginnie Springs Ballroom area on the last one. I can't wait for Inon to support the 1030SW.

They do already, go to Inon America and look under page one of the NEWS on the ribbon. Yes, they do!

BTW, only the bottom photo is from Ginnie. Top is Silver Springs (Mammoth Spring), next is the little cave at Alexander, next is Mammoth Spring again and the bottom is Ginnie.

I must be blind, because I can't see that reference. I see where they are now supporting the 790SW & 850SW, but not the 1030SW. Could you send me a link to that specific page?

Thanks

You are correct, sorry. Originally the Oly site showed the PT-041 as being for all three cameras, if you click on the accessory tab on Oly USA it still shows that but on the same page it also shows the PT-043. Hmm, well, I wonder if Inon will support it.I wonder if the adpater from either the PT-041 or 035 will fit, hmmmm.

I have this camera and have used it while diving and snorkeling. It is very easy to use and quality seems pretty good. When snorkeling in very sunny conditions the screen is hard to see.

Olympus has a strobe but not sure if it is what I need/want. I have contacted Inon:

Hello Diana,

Thank you for your inquiry.

We are currently waiting for INON, Inc. (manufacturer) to tell us if they are going to make a specific mount base and Optical D Cable/Cap set for the Olympus PT-043 (1030SW Housing). At this time, they have stated they are studying the feasibility of support. We are hoping to know in the next couple weeks if they will fully support this model.

However, until we have a precision cable connectivity method via a mount base, you can use our Universal Optical D Cable ($79.95) to connect any of our strobes to almost any clear-case housing, such as the PT-043. The Universal Optical D Cable connects to your housing via a Delrin (heavy locking velcro) connection.

I would suggest the D2000 Type 3 Strobe ($539.00) as the strobe of choice for your setup. It has plenty of power for any point and shoot system and it has a focus/modeling light as well.

If you have further questions, please let me know.

Kind Regards,
Jolene Philbrook
INON America, Inc.

Has anyone tried this set up? Any pros or cons?

Thanks
Diana
