I have a C-8080 with a PT-023 housing. I have read about using converters to be able to use non OLY strobes but was curious about this subject. Does anyone use the Oly strobes? Experiences? I am thinking of selling the Oly housing and going with Ikelite because of this.

You should be able to use Sea & Sea, Inon and Ikelite strobes at least with this set up.

The Inons do not require a converter, just the cable. I am not sure on the others but a little digging should find the answers.

I guess my question is really about the OLY TTL system. I keep reading that it is not usable unless you use a OLY strobe. Is this true? I am reading the manual now.
I am clueless about this stuff and before I spend a bunch more money would like to clear it up in my mind. Anyway thanks for the reply and help.

I would use the Inon D2000 strobe/s which are S/TTL compatable with the PT-023 housing. I have just used a pair of these on an evaluation shoot and found them to be very user friendly, giving accurate exposures and easy compensation for under/over exposure. They also work in manual mode as your experience increases (for more control).

TTL with the Oly housing is only available with a housed Oly strobe. Due to the size / output of these strobes, they are only decent for macro work. Forget about using them for WA.

Ikelite housings for the Oly cameras offer TTL when used with Ikelite strobes.

The Inon D2000 strobes, while probably are not true TTL, work VERY well with Oly cameras. They mimic the cameras internal flash exactly.

You will find after shooting digital for a short time that TTL is not needed.

Thank you. This is what I really needed to know. Like a kid in a candy shop, I keep looking at different things and have ***** envy. I was playing with the camera last night taking multiple pictures with different settings to just see what I could do. Not really understanding what I was looking for or needed and in my research have learned a lot about this. Thanks. Now I have to go jump in the pool to test the housing.

I have been reading about the Inon D2000 model. I was leaning toward them and will look at them a lot closer. So many wants so few needs and so little money.
