Did anyone have a chance to play with the e-410 yet (and if so, does anyone have any comments or a direct comparison to the e-330 ?) .... any thoughts on it ?

i ordered an e-410, really due to the size and live view which i thought would be good for u/w use. It was indeed nice and small (wonder how big/small the housings will eventually be).

There was no percievable shutter lag while using the view finder (and it could shoot off a few shots in quick succession), however, when i went to live view, it seemed incredibly slow. Point at a subject, press the shutter...wait ...wait....then you hear the click...then wait a little before you can do it agin.......i wonder what % of fish butts i'd be getting u/w

As soon as using the flash with live view it it was incredibly slow (we're talking well over a second of lag)...something much worse than my current camera....
.....so much so i have returned the camera........

..........maybe i missed something and it is not a bad as i thought, or perhaps i was just expecting too much, but after spending an evening trying different things and going through the manual hoping to get it to a point where i thought it would work for me under water i finally decided to send it back.

was interested in other people's thoughts (or did I really miss something ??)....is this the same as the E-330?, as i see a few people on here who are using the e-330 and who are getting some good shots......

[i was playing with it with the kit lens: 14-42]

You will hard pressed to get a housing for it in the near future. The e-330 is a great camera for underwater use, and there are 3 housing available for it right now. If you were playing with the camera and it took forever to take the picture, you might want to flip up the flash. The camera is trying to slow down the speed to capture more light. The e-410 and e-510 look like really nice cameras, I would like to get the e-510 in the future. All the 4/3 lenses fit on all the new Olympus dslr's, so eventually going from e-330 to e-510 won't be such a financial hit. Good luck with your camera.:D

The E-330 has two "live-view" modes, A & B. In B, the mirror must physically move out of the way and it's slow. In A mode, there is no mirror movement and no noticeable shutter lag.

I've heard, but not verified that the 410 and 510 use B mode in live view, thus the shutter lag you have reported.

Like gballard says, there are housings available and the E-330 is in stock...

gballard - true about the housings, I asked the Ikelite rep at Oceanfest and she thought it would be 3-6months after release of camera (depending on how the camera worked as their techs had not seen one at that time)..Oly will be making a proprietry one. Also, the worst lag in my playing was when i was using the flash...

jlyle - i didn't see anything about different modes of live view for the e410 (although may have missed it - but i don't think so)..if it isn't there i'd say this camera will be pretty much useless u/w with liveview.
BTW - you got some great photos in Coz with your e-330

i never played with the e-330 (so didn't have anything aprt from my "high" expectations to compare against), just went for e410 thiking it would be much better (newer technologies etc.etc.)...

anyhow, i did send it back (as i only had a few days onthe return policy) and will get something different instead. Just interested in other peoples experiences (would be annoying if it was something simple i failed to do) ...the small size would make it a nice topside travel camera,
