Hi

After a 30 year hiatus from diving, I am about to get back into it. I was certified by YMCA about 35 years ago and then lived in places where diving was not a real sport option.

For the past several years I have been snorkeling with my (now) wife and last year during a vacation in Jamaica we did a "Discover Scuba" course - and I fell back "in love" with it. Had 3 dives down there and have been accumulating my equipment since then. I am in the process of being certified (again) by PADI. having to learn about BCDs and not having a J-Valve... (at least snorkels, fins, and masks are still familiar) ... lol

Although there are not too many places to dive here in TN - we do take 2-3 trips per year to the FL Keys or Carribean - so I will have lots of opportunities to dive.

Just discovered this board and I am impressed at all the information presented here. Mostly going to be a "sponge" for awhile.

Just glad to be here.

Michael

Heya Michael, glad to have aboard and back into the sport... Can't wait to hear some of the stories I'm sure you'll have about gear changes as well as enviromental changes..

Cheers,
Vickie

Michael,

Welcome back to the sport! Welcome also to Scuba Board. You are not by any means, however, our oldest member! ;)

Cheers!

I realize that I am definately not the oldest member of the board, but I may be the oldest newbie - since I will be 59 when I get my recertification completed. Besides, old is a state of mind - and I don't feel old - in fact getting back into diving is making me feel even younger.

I am just glad to find this board where there is so much information - I can learn to avoid lots of newbie mistakes by reading what others have done.

Thanks to all, for the warm welcome.

Michael

Howdy!

Welcome to the board.

You'd be suprise how many 'new' divers you'll find getting back into the sport after long haituses. I myself am just getting back into diving after 26 years.

I've been meaning to get back to diving the entire time but didn't because of I figured there wasn't much to see in local lakes. This year I finally decided to just do it and see what there was to see. I figured at the very least I would get the enjoyment of just being under the water and would be improving my skills in case I ever do get a chance to dive someplace else.

..snip..

From another thread: This young lady started at 75...

Norma Magalhaes Miele who has just completed a try-dive at the ripe young age of 75 and intends to continue diving in order to accompany her husband, children and grand-children.

I've trained lots of people older than 59 but you could wait another 20 years or so, then you can be the oldest newbie ;)

You won't regret getting back into it and you'll love the new gear.
