We are scheduled to go to Okinawa in 2 days for a week of diving.

I was just told they are expecting a typhoon and there may be no diving for quite a few days.

Anyone there now or have experience with bad weather there?

Is it still worth going in a storm or should we change our plans and stay in Osaka

I looked at the Windy app/website and looks from Tuesday to Friday there will be little to no diving during that time. Very strong winds and high waves. Safety first.

What I’m seeing is that it’s going to be bad Wed/Thurs, questionable on Tuesday and Friday. Things usually shut down about 24hrs in advance, and pick right back up the morning after the storm passes, so I’d expect Saturday to be fine for diving. MAYBE Friday in some places on the west side of the island and in the south.

Note: below are sites on Oki proper. Keramashoto National Park is looking bad well into Saturday.

Windy.app is pretty good, but it’s still outside of 72hrs, so it’s really a 50/50

If it were my dive trip, I’d shift to mainland for the week. Maybe coming down to Oki for a couple days starting Saturday. :(

Storm is veering away from oki. We’re gonna be getting the outlying storm clouds though, and for longer than expected before. Right now it’s looking like Wednesday is gonna be the worst of it.

That said, the shore dives are now expected to have 5ft-6ft swells into Saturday. The Keramas are still expected to have 7ft or higher swells into Sunday

It’s plowing straight into the other places I w as going to recommend. I’d say find some places around Osaka or Tokyo. If I were to visit only one city in Japan though I’d go to Kyoto. I’ve never been diving there, it’s just easily my favorite city in Japan. Kyoto was the capital of Japan for a few thousand years and is really unique.

Yah, sorry man, from here cancel looks like the best call.

It just started raining 10 minutes ago. The weather is going to be bad tomorrow and into Thursday, and looks like it won’t pass until mid saturday
