What do I do with it?

circa 1987 USD triple manifold

5.25" on center between posts.

Manufacturer & Nominal Capacity |Service pressure, psi |Actual air capacity, ft3 |Outer diameter, in |Length without valve, in |Empty weight, lbs (w/o valve) |Buoyancy Empty, lbs (w/valve) |Buoyancy Full, lbs (w/valve)
Catalina S30 3000 30 5.25 20 13.7 0.2 -2.4
Luxfer 30 3000 30 4.87 21.85 11.61 1.2 -1
Catalina S40 3000 40 5.25 24.9 15.9 1.7 -2.6
Luxfer 40 3000 39.9 5.25 24.75 15.3 2.2 -0.8

I'd really like to see 3-40's on it, but that seems a little tight. So, I guess 3 Luxfer AL30's is the only way to go.

Steel is definitely out
ST-30 30 3130+ -6 -4 14.9 5.40 14.75
ST-40 40 3130+ -6 -3 18.1 5.40 18.7

It looks like you might have to stick with the 30's, but that should be plenty. The interesting part will be making a suitable way to mount it to whatever BCD you're using. Should be alot of fun

Thanks.

I'll use x-long cam bands, the way they were intended to be used (vintage 1987)

You must use Luxfer 30s. The Catalina 30s are bigger in diameter and shorter.

If you want more air, two 30s and a 40 should fit and give you 100cf or two 40s and a 30 for 110cf.

why not three 40s?

Because 3 40's won't quite fit.

I gave that some thought.

Two 40's on the outside, and a luxfer 30 on the inside, for a real rocket-like look.

That way, I could put the center on first, then one side, with a strap wrench, since it would be longer, and then the other side with a strap wrench.

Just MHO, but you may want to use three identical tanks. The Luxfers will stand up, give the rig some stability, and the volume diff. between the 30 and 40 isn't really enough to get all bothered about.

You might want to PM Nemrod on the bands. He has a setup like this IIRC, and he had the bands custom made locally - they look pretty slick. There are photos somewhere on the board if you do a search, in a thread where another guy was also trying to set up triples.

FWIW....

The bands for small triples is no big deal. You only need a band at the bottom. The manifold will hold the tank tops. Three hose clamps and two U shaped spacers will take care of the bottom band. A single tank adapter attached to the center tank will allow you to attach the tanks to a backplate.

Almost every rig that I own now is either small doubles, triples or quad tanks.
