Started swimming with the masters class at the gym (although missed last one due to work and being sick....) and Franks' exploits, I've been inspired....

Sprint Triathlon in 2005

Have wanted to do one for years, just never really got serious about it......

Of couse, now that I have decided to do it, I immediately got sick and am working 12 hour days, so haven't even been able to use this motiviation to get started.

Now, where did I leave that bike??

Aw Right! :thumb: WTG, Chris!

Chris,

Great goal- I've often said that triathlon should be the official second sport of divers.

To make yourself even more accountable, you should identify a specific race as early as possible and put it on the calendar. Work backwards from there to create "gut checks" on your training leading up to the triathlon. These can be 5k fun runs, training time trials, etc.

Let us know how it goes (um... once you get started <g>).

OK, as of now, chosen, I say as of now because the first semi local one I can find isn't until Spring. I know winter's "off season," but hey, it's California.

So as of now, 5/22/05, Newport Beach Triathlon. That should give me plenty of time :-)

I have a friend that just did the ironman triathalon. he's in his 40's and just did his first one. 112 miles on bike and a 26 mile run (i forget the swim distance). He finished in the top 1/4. You can do it, scubaboard is here to cheer you on! A friend of mine made a movie of the whole event...inspiring no doubt. Good luck.

Congratulations! The first step to enabling the addiction of triathlons is to make a public proclamation of intent. You'll soon realise that the hardest part is not the race itself, but all of the hard work it takes to get to the starting line. If you put in your time and effort in your training, you'll be rewarded with an extremely fun race no matter how fast or slow you finish. Welcome to the fold my fellow Clydesdale!
