The Hollywoodivers group on Saturday discovered a dead sea lion that had just died from a gill net entanglement on the oil rigs last Saturday. Divers tried to free it to see if it was still alive. It seemed to be dying as they cut it free. It may be part of a large gil net that has been reported floating off the So Cal coast. Other than that they all had a great day. The conditions were very calm, vis was 40 to 50 in the shallows and much better at depth. Michael Kane, Karim Hamza, Michael Lutz and Jessica Frost were diving tech gear during training and Jessica finished her GUE Fundies class with Michael. No reports of bad weather or high wind. Ken Liu was scootering on X scooter and commented how small the rig becomes when scootering at one depth. All in another great day on the rigs Ellen, Ellie and Eureka. Thanks again to the Sea Bass Dive Boat and Captain Rich out of San Pedro.

I was on this trip.

We could not ask for better weather or conditions. Just beautiful.

Reports and photos posted here and here.

HUGE thanks to the crew from HWD Divers for setting this up. I've dived the rigs with other outfits (on the SeaBass) but this trip was better. All of the divers were dialed in, the entries and exits went smoothly, lots to see and the long planned SI's allowed us to ratchet up the dives a bit more than usual.

Also - a giant congrats to Jessica. She was beaming!

This was far and away my fav trip to the rigs. Thanks again everyone!
