Ohana may be Hawaiian but Mateo does make an excellent deep dish pizza, and peanut butter tequila liqueur, in addition to being a great dive instructor.

Just to be clear, the guy who owns O'Hanna's is Matt Moran from Chicago and his wife Angie. I am not him :) I am Matthew Atkins from Canada, and at the risk of doing something inappropriate, Matt at O'Hanna's would love you all to stop by and try the pizza.

Well, I certainly don't think it is inappropriate to eat 'OHana's Pizza. It might be inappropriate to spell it with an extra N. Who knows what that might mean in Hawaiian?

Actually, there is plenty of precedent for these kinds of posts in various forums on the board. On the Mexico forum there is some dive op that posts a running commentary of dive temps, conditions, unusual sights etc. Spam would be him saying "we are offering a special price this week if you come dive with us" every other post. I think of it as a way to get to know Matt a bit better...from a distance. I enjoy reading them and don't feel the least bit compelled to go dive with his operation.
If it weren't for the 7-line commercial signature attached to each post, I'd be inclined to agree with you. It's my opinion that he's taking advantage of free advertising by posting rather than paying for the ad space, but hey, if SB doesn't need the ad revenue, who I am to complain?

On the other hand, I too usually welcome the contributions from other dive pros on the island. I guess the difference that I perceive is that some operators only post when they have new or different information, or in response to another poster's question. It's the daily repetition that puts these posts over the line, but again, that's just my opinion. It's a slippery slope, to be sure. Allowing it for one means it's allowed for all. How many dive ops are on Cozumel nowdays anyway? I guess we're just lucky so far that no one else has jumped on the free advertising band wagon. It sure would be a shame if we start getting fifty or a hundred of these sort of posts/ads everyday, but I suppose the doors could be closed at that point.

There's also precedent for relegating advertising posts to the appropriate marketplace forum. I could swear I've experienced that outcome as a result of reporting other threads in the past. Tattling on spammers gives me great joy.

Sorry Moss, but kind of hilarious that you get Modded for your clearly inappropriate post on one thread while trying to play board police on another ;)
I don't see much where MJ pushes his own business, just what the day on the job is like. No offense taken here.
I'm sure you find it funny given that you were the one who reported my supposedly "offensive" post and got me Modded. Be very proud of yourself.

So just don't click on the thread, you will feel no spam. Like you, I have my preferred Op, and will likely not change, since I like staying in town and getting picked up at a downtown pier (wetsuit in hand :b ) Still enjoy his posts and pics.
Looking forward to your next trip report in June, they are always a fun read, and sounds like you need a vacation ;)
