do you know if these octopuses only mate once and then die, like the
giant pacific octopuses?

That's a good question. I really don't know. This is the day octopus (Octopus cyanea) and depending on what book you read, only live 1 to 1 1/2 years. The 1st 2 times I witnessed this, the ocopus were as large as they seem to get here. These however were more like medium size. So, I was thinking that they mated and that was it but now I'm not so sure. I have heard the female sometimes kills the male after copulation but I just don't know. If anyone does I'd sure like to hear it.
