This is the 3rd time I have witnessed this over the years. As usual, I had the 105mm so I wasn't able to get the shot but it is a cool enuf behavior shot to post anyway.

It takes time and patience to wait for the subjects to get used to you being there and allowing your voyeurism. If you are in an area where there are other divers, it’s also important to have a good buddy that stays clear and points out eels to other divers to distract them from you. Thanks Charlie!!

do you know if these octopuses only mate once and then die, like the
giant pacific octopuses?
 
Nice pic of some interesting octopi behavior. We witnessed a couple mating here in Laguna Beach, CA this past weekend … didn’t have my camera on that dive, unfortunately. Thanks for sharing.
