Would be interested in hearing from anyone who can comment on weather and dive conditions likely to be encountered during 1st week of October on CXII (Saba & St, Kitts).

I'd expect it to be quite nice. Unless there is a tropical storm or hurricane in the region, which of course is impossible to predict this far in advance.

We did the Explorer liveaboard trip to Saba and St. Kitts during late October and the water was calm and the weather was beautiful. We did have one rainy, windy, poor vis day off of St. Kitts, but otherwise it was great.

That was the only bad day we had over a 2 week period because we spent a few days on St. Martin before boarding and then we got off the boat to spend a few days on Saba before flying back to St. Martin.

So the weather may be wonderful - or not. Below is a chart showing the frequency of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Caribbean and you can see that they often occur in October - especially early October. But the Caribbean is huge and a big storm in one part of the region is likely to affect that area but maybe not the other areas.

You can never be entirely sure about the weather - no matter where you go and what time of year you travel, but September and October do have a higher risk of storms. We like to take vacation in October to celebrate our anniversary, and the rates are cheaper and the destinations are less crowded and the water is very warm.

But we recognize the risks so we buy travel insurance when we book trips and then we relax and wait to see what happens - and so far we have been pretty lucky!

Hurricanes and Storms

Yep,
Hurricanes are the biggest threat to your good time. Unless you go to the ABC islands which very very rarely get in the path of a tropical hurricane.

Hi @ontdiver!
I took a peek at last year's Trip Report from the October 1st charter and this is what I found:
Surface water temp: 85F
At depth: 84F
Underwater viz: Some locations were 80-100ft and some were 60-80ft
Skies were partly cloudy with very minimal surface chop and a calm crossing from St. Maarten to Saba and later in the week to St.Kitts. Guests saw a variety of marine life, including a giant Green Moray and quite a few Nurse Sharks.

You can never predict weather completely, but hopefully this helps.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions. I experienced this charter firsthand in December last year - and LOVED it!
