What is your preferred length for an octo hose?

Do you think it's important that the octo 2nd stage be a different color than your primary?

24", bungied around my neck.

As such, black is fine because:

a.) No one else is going to use it but me
b.) I know where it is without looking at it
c.) I can't see the hose anyway

I use 36" Black hose for the same reasons listed above but i found 24" too small as i primarily dive with doubles.

Mainstream is 36 inches in length for an alternate second stage.. There is no scuba police to mandate a color but yellow is beneficial if a OOA diver is barreling down on you in search of his or her next breath. In any case it wants to be readily accessible since they may snatch yours from your mouth leaving you looking for your next breath.

If you choose a long hose and bungee'd alternate as RJP described then color is irrelevant.

????

How are you routing your alternate hose such that...

1.) A 24" hose is too short
2.) A 36" hose isn't too long

I can maybe see having a 26" or something made if you really just can't deal with the 24" length, but having an "extra" foot of hose seems excessive.

Between that and zip-tieing your necklace to the mouthpiece it sounds like you're your own personal traveling entanglement hazard.

I use a bungied octo, but mine is 36" since I route it under my arm for streamlining. I perfer to not have any hoses (aside from my inflator hose) go over my shoulder. If I could think of a good way to route the inflator under my arm I would probably do that too... okay it is possible I am a tad obsessed.

More hose than necessary = streamlining?

Where's your primary hose routed?

If you ever needed to use your alternate, how would you get your arm out of the way?

Thanks for your concern and advice but there is really no need:wink:

But that's what the web is for - people who don't know anything offering advice to people who don't think they need it. (Well that and porn, of course.)

Oh I need all the advice I can get, (especially on where to get porn) but when offered conflicting advice / lessons I value my instructors opinions more than those of people I have never met / dived with / seen or been taught by. Cheers
