I am looking at purchasing a computer that will take a long time for me to outgrow. I am still a newer diver and I do not plan on doing anything other than rec diving. I may get into nitrox later on down the line. I only want a dive computer not a everyday watch or anything. I saw that Oceanic is doing a promotion for a free transmitter with the VT4.1 and wanted to know what people think of this computer. Pros/Cons? Also, can you use this as a normal dive computer without the transmitter or do you have to have the transmitter connected for it to work properly?

Thanks for any comments and/or suggestions.

I have a VT4 (a little older model) that I use for my recreational diving. Very good computer, easy to use menu. Will cover anything a recreational diver may need & then some. The free transmitter deal is a good one (about $400 retail). I typically do not use the electric compass, I just prefer an analog compass. Yes, it can be used without the transmitter,... just the air pressure part flashes 0's,... just make sure you have some way to read your air pressure, lol. I use both the transmitter & an analog gauge.

Is $525 new with transmitter and PC cable a good deal for the VT4?
