Hi,

I need some help on picking a dive computer.

I recently purchased an Oceanic VT3. I didn't realize how big it was until I received it. It's wider than my wrist...! Other than that, no complains. I'm now thinking about either getting a retractor to fit the VT3 and my compass or exchanging the VT3 for a smaller wrist-mount computer like Atom 2.0, or wait for 3.0 (hopefully not too expensive). I appreciate if you can give me some suggestions.

Here are some questions about Atom 2.0
- If you ascending too fast, does it have any way to note you besides beeping? I heard there is no graphic display for that and the beeping is hard to hear?
- Does it show left time for air?
- Is Atom 2.0 durable and reliable?

Thank you!

Yes, the VT3 is large but I actually prefer the larger readings and the larger body. I have never found it to be to large or bothersome. But certainly - it is not the wristwatch style. I have the 2.0 also but gave it to the wife when I tried the VT3. Why don't you give it a dive before setting it aside. I really prefer the wristmount to the retractor approach. There is nothing like just having to look at your wrist as opposed to searching for something.

I like the wristmount and large display too. But VT3 is about 1 cm wider than my wrist. When I wear VT3 on my wrist, it can move around even with the first hole on the band...not to mention it'll loose more when going deep. That’s why I start to think about getting a retractor or a smaller computer instead. If you don't mind, does your wife find 2.0 a good size for her? I'm a female diver too

I was not aware that you are a lady diver. I certainly can see your problem. It is rather large for a lady. My wife loves the 2.0 but we had to pinch another hole to make it fit better. Have you tried the VT3 over your wetsuit? I dive dry and if not usually in a 3mm.....it does have a lot of band to it even for me.

just sold an atom 2.0, yes it graphically displays ascent speed in % as well as audible.........I sold it because it was difficult to use, I continually locked it in guage mode (24hrs) when trying to switch to nitrox....I never successfully did it, even with the manual in front of me............to complicated to use, bet very nice computer, and very reliable

Cant speak to the VT3, but we have 3 Atom 2s and like them. Just bought the 3rd 1 month ago. They are complicated to learn, and I will find out about the nitrox issue in a month. But once we sat down and learned them, it actually all started making sense. Its just lots crammed into a small box.

they do have a lot of great functions, and are attractive to wear as a watch when traveling....cant really do that with my Uemis

Thank you guys! I think I want an atom 2 now. Will go to a local dive shop to check it out. And hopefully will see an atom 3 there :)
