Trying to rebuild Omega 2 Trying to remove control valve screw. According to manual it takes a 1/4 in socket. Not happening, too big. Tried 7 mm, hits flats but not enough to remove valve. Any suggestions?

When you say the 1/4" socket is too big, do you mean it is too big for the actual hex on the screw?

I remember that the hex on this screw is situated very low on the screw and required a very deep walled socket to reach at all. Unfortunately I can't remember what size it is, but for what it's worth, all manuals I have mention a 1/4" socket, but also specify a deep walled one.

Deep wall 1/4" is correct for Omega 2, this is what I use.

Exact same socket I'm using. Just spins. It's not like it's striped does it on all three regs
This got me curious enough to open one up to verify my memory was correct. My 1/4" socket is a 12 point with 11mm outside diameter which engages the control valve screw hex perfectly on several Omega II regulators.

Something seems to be off on your socket, since it seems really unlikely that all three Omega's have a non standard size control valve screw. As mentioned by Tanks A Lot, it is not clear what you mean when saying the 1/4 socket is too big. Does that mean it is too wide to bottom out inside the flange and engage the screw hex?

OK just tried it again. I got it backwards. The 1/4 in 6 pt doesn't go all the way down, it sits on top of the lower control valve. The one that does is a 7 mm. I think the problem might be that I'm using a 6 pt. I'll pick up a 12 pt and try that. It's kind of hard to see if the control valve is a hex or square. If it is square a 6 pt won't fit, only a 12 point.
