Oceanic Geo "How To"

My Geo recently went back in for a water leak under warranty and happened to stumble upon SeaHorse81 and her guide to using the watch more easily.

She was nice enough to scan and send the documents over to me and I'll be looking forward to playing with it when it comes back.

Hopefully this will help others w/ the same computer, its helped me understand what all my button pushing was doing.

You're very welcome. I'm just thrilled that something I initially did strictly for my own needs has ended up helping others. The internet is an awesome thing. If anyone finds my notes or drawing too cryptic to decipher (remember that I was not anticipating an audience when I did these), feel free to post or PM w/ questions. One good thing from the very time-consuming process of doing this is that I think there is very, very little I don't know about a GEO at this point.

Except installing software patches -- can't help you there. I found a software problem in mine last fall, after doing 23 dives in a week. At the end of the 23rd dive, the computer just went haywire, telling me I was suddenly saturated for both O2 and nitrogen, and urging me to ascend immediately (I was on my safety stop at the time). The readings were bizarre, but more bizarre still was how they all disappeared after about two hours, leaving no evidence in the dive log of what happened. Apparently, this glitch was always there, but it hadn't shown up before because you have to dive the thing half to death to find the bug. Interestingly, another diver on the trip was also diving a GEO that she'd owned for two years; hers did exactly the same thing on the same dive (which very fortunately was the last one of the trip).

Oceanic straightened things out and issued the necessary patch in March of this year (2010). Your dealer should be able to get it and install it for you for free -- I'd encourage all GEO owners to make sure they've got this update.
