Given where the last thread about the Datamax Pro Plus, I thought it was best to ask my question in another thread...

I see that a lotof people have this same computer. I got mine for Christmas and have yet to dive with it. The only thing that wrries me is it doesn't seem as sturdy ad my old Oceanic Prodigy console. Does anyone have or have seen a protector for this computer. I've seen other breands with a wire cage over the faceplate, but all my LDS has is a plastic cover that fits over the screen. I'm just afraid of hitting it on a wreck... and bye bye computer...

I use the plastic that just adheres to the face plate. In the 2+ years I've had it, I've had no problem. I did get a small neoprene bag that slips over it (cetacea-made? not sure) to protect it topside. As to underwater, all I can say is I keep all my gauges tucked up tightly, so knocking it around has never been a problem.

Oh, my wife dropped hers on the dive deck one day - 3+ foot drop - no problem.

I use a clear adhesive film protector over mine. Oceanic makes them for the DMPP at a cost of $12-15 each. But I use a product called Tiger Skin from Tiger Gear . You just cut it to fit the screen and apply it according to the instructions. Mine has been on for over 4 years and is still going strong. I've also made a cover for my dive watch out of it.

I take care with my computer but I don't baby it. The case has it's share of scuff marks but the screen is still clear as a bell. Some dive shops carry the Tiger Skin or you can order it online for about the same price.

If you have your console clipped off and snug to your body, not dangling along behind you, there shouldn't be any fear of 'banging' it on a wreck or anything in the water.

I have the Oceanic Data Pro Plus with the compass. The only problem that I have had with the console is I have had the compass fall out of the console twice. Other than that the console and computer have worked great.

Really? Mine 'snaps' into the compass boot very snugly. In fact, it's a real chore to take it out to clean it from time to time.
