Does anyone happen to have a box of front covers (aka purge buttons) for Alpha 9 second stages? We have a bunch of regulators becoming useless due to failure of these.

Ken

I wish I knew. Those plastic rings are worst design ever. It's too bad, as simple and cheap as they are, those second stages breathe great and are super light and comfy.

But those purge covers should be recalled and replaced with something that works. Those little legs break all the time and it is awfully easy for it to pop off.

Cannot tell for the Alpha9, but for Alpha7 :
----> Experiment replacing Oceanic regulator covers with silicone...

Or will serve of guidance for the Alpha9. I do not have that model to try and make the purge cap.

Edited: Alternative ----> Buy New Oceanic Alpha 9 Second Stage Color Kit for Oceanic Alpha 9 Regulator- ORANG in Cheap Price on Alibaba.com

From the same crappy material. Perhaps I could assist you to create a replacement that will last decades.
The last line is interesting :

If I can get some measurements from you, I can try 3d printing one for you, and if we get it right run off as many as you need. I'm using a printed one I did for an SP 109 on my primary now, so I know the TPU material is suitable.

They actually stopped producing the front covers for awhile, which was a little scary since the covers turned brittle and broke easily in our tropical climate. We finally managed to get a few covers in this year and they've changed the material on the covers, it's now feels softer, more silicone like and hopefully will last longer than the old ones did. I'm not sure where you're located at but have you tried your local Oceanic dealer or distributor?

Sorry, missed the replies.

These are club regs so I can’t use 3d printed covers. In the event of an issue the coroner would probably get quite sarcastic.

It didn’t take any tropical weather to make them brittle, they stated out like that and we got half a dozen spares immediately. We had a good relationship with the shop at the time but it has changed hands since.

Did Oceanic go bust? At least in the U.K. the distribution changed.

The parts for life thing depends on too many things remaining the same. Sadly at the time it was the main difference between the Oceanic and the Apeks ATX, that turns out to have been a mistake.

I will look to see if the Alpha 7 or 8 parts are available.

Best bit is the current Oceanic distributor is offering to replace the second stages for hardly less than two ATXs and a DS4 would cost.

London, yes we have tried the original dealer and the distributor.

I have 10 sets...

They didn't go bust, back in 2017 Oceanic and Hollis were acquired by Huish Outdoors and part of the change was to move distribution to Germany, previously everything used to come through Oceanic SW (now called Fathom Outdoors). This was all supposed to be sorted by mid 2018 but it seems that all the UK dealers are still having problems obtaining spares/parts.

I know that Stoney Cove has a limited amount of Oceanic parts and servicing kits in stock and they don't know when they will be able to get any more.

Ok, so perhaps I have someone to go after. Thanks.
