There is no difference in the second stage, only the first stage changes.

the difference is in the first stage, the sport is unbalance piston, while the regular one is balance. I would go with a balance unit over an unbalance unit.

Thanks. I have a Alpha 8 sport (grey one) with CDX5 second. This setup should be okay for cold water (40 degrees) right?

The CDX5 is the first stage, just for clarification. Yes, a CDX5 is a very good cold water reg, I own 4 of them, with a combination of Alpha 8, GT3, and EOS second stages on them, and they all perform very well in cold water. In fact I'll have the EOS/CDX5 under the ice with me next weekend to test it out in extreme cold, as I just picked it up yesterday.
