Just a reminder to any attending Ocean Fest this year. It is not being held in the same location as previous years. I always enjoyed the Lauderdale by the sea location, but this year it's moved a bit further north. We'll be staying at the Great Western which is nearby, but the rooms at the O.Fest rate were all taken. Should be interesting to see how the new location works out. www.oceanfest.com

Ummm, dont you mean its a bit further south?

Lauderdale by the Sea is north of Las Olas.

But, thanks for the info as i didnt know of the change.,

It looks as though it's going to be along A1A just south of the Swimming Hall of Fame and Pro Dive. Much better for me :D it's easier to get to then in previous years.

We'll see ya there.

We'll be in the area May 10-20, but had planned to do Key Largo on 5/17 & 18 - is the Festival worth changing our plans for??

The last couple of years it's been a little small. Lots of venders and a few big names there to see and talk to but you can do the whole thing in a couple of hours. There are live bands on the beach and usually a big beach dive/treasure hunt if you get there early enough. IMO, if you're in the area, it's worth going to but if you have to change plans and drive from Key Largo, I wouldn't. Unless you have absolutly nothing to do that day and really want to make the trip up for the day.

This Ocean Fest sounds pretty cool. I will be a newbie to Florida in a couple weeks as I will be moving to Jacksonville. How long of a trip is it from Jax to Lauderdale? Any suggested routes? I know I could go out to mapquest but you can miss some really cool stuff that way. I figured it would be a good way to get out and learn a little about the Florida dive scene.

From JAX to FLL it's a good 8 hours straight down I-95. Ocean Fest might be fun but I'm not sure it's worth an 8 hour trip, unless you're planning an entire weekend of diving to go along with it.

We have a condo in Surfside till Saturday morning, so maybe we'll just check out the music & beach party on Friday night and just head to the Keys the next morning........:)

last year, and as a non-diver, she wasn't all that thrilled, but then we had a celebrity sighting (Jean-Michel Cousteau) and she thought that was pretty exciting.
