Hi everyone, I'm Bill, I'm new to the board. I'm a grad student at UH Manoa, I live in downtown Honolulu, and am always interested in chances to go diving locally. Gotta take advantage of the great location.

Right now I'm working on my PADI Divemaster cert and need to make a map of a dive site. Anyone going to Electric Beach soon? I've heard a lot of critters like to collect in the warm water coming out of the power plant.

Hi Bill, I just spent 16 days diving Oahu! I am now back in Canada with same temp in the water but a whole lot less pretty things to see in the deep blue (well, greenish here LOL).
My Brother in law is newly certified and we dove with him lots during out trip. He's great in the water and has most of his own gear and tanks.
I have sent him the link to this site and to your post, maybe he will be in touch (Shawn).

E. Beach is great for the variety of live, Makua is a close rival and actually my more favorite spot to date. But EB has many perks. To swim out the end of the pipe is quick but DO NOT get in front of it as the current from it will propel you many yards into open ocean and likely send your mask etc. for a ride. I think this site is great for snorkelers. Divers can get much more from the site by kicking out (lining up with the smoke-stack) about 100 yds until a peek below shows big boulders and sand channels. Drop down and with a 160 degree bearing you should head into the reef, bearing right allows you to swim along the reef's rim and find other critters as well.

Mapping it could be fun as there is an irregular contour of the reef into white sand (towards open ocean) and there are some other distinctive things like a big, hovering, flat-mushroom rock (has a ledge on the ocean side). Enjoy!!

Aloha, Bill, and welcome to scubaboard.

I'm currently PADI AOW, Deep, EANx, and PPB cert'ed. I'm trying to get Wreck and Rescue done yet this summer/fall. Been diving since April 2011, all within the Hawaiian islands. I'm trying to get a lot more shore diving in this year than last, and trying to dive every other weekend.

I'm always open to new dive buddies. Send me a PM and we can plan something.
