Tracking anything manually is much more limiting than computers. Computers are attached to you on the dive, and can calculate the OTU's CNS% N2 Loading, etc - much more accurately than any table can. If you're looking for a more conservative route, then tables are ok.
 
My computer has this functionality. I use it.

By a similar token, I use its functionality to tell me my current depth, ascent rate, time at depth, and other things that I could go through a lot of mumbo jumbo to do manually - but don't (:
