a buddy did have his Scubapro MK25 start to freeflow once or twice, even though it was environmentally sealed.

I think you may be mistaken here. The Mk25EVO (the newest model) is touted for its cold water resistance, but unlike the Atomic seal the ambient holes in the Mark25 are wide open. It cannot be sealed.
Good choice for your doubles and your deco rig.
