Some might remember my question a few weeks back regarding my having a heart attack and my desire to dive. It has been 8 months sence my attack and after anjioplasty (sp?) I have lowered my colestrol and placed all my vitals in line.
Today I had a visit with my Dr and told him what I wanted to do.
He reviewed my charts and then said that he had no problem with my new venture. Yea... I was cutting that close. I had already booked my trip to cozy and picked up my new gear in antisipation of getting my OW certification next week. I am not sure what I would have done if he said NO WAY.

I am happy for you and that you doctor, who is knowagble about SCUBA diving and its demands has cleared you. He does know about Diving dosent he?

Enjoy yourself, and not to put a wet blancket on you, but do keep in mind the most common cause od death for a SCUBA diver is heart attack. Seems the most dangerous time of diving heart wisse is loading the gear on the boat.

Thanks for your concerns. I do think you have your facts wrong. According to the most recent DAN reports on diver related deaths 67% drowning 9% air embolism 4% asphysia and only 2% corinary. Also 75% of the deaths that are related to heart was people that did not know that they had problems beforehand.
But I will be careful.

I was basing my statement on our local environment. We have had several divers die of a heart attack, most had no prior problem, whicle getting their gear onto the boat. DAN may not count these deaths as they were not wet at the time of the attack. Just planning on getting wet.

Enjoy your diving.
