You know that's from 2020 right? Ditching his weights in this instance may not have helped after all that.
 
That link is blocked by Google and my antivirus, but I think this is the same incident.

It seems that he had a faulty regulator, faulty Spg, and faulty depth gauge, He ran out of air and did not ditch his weights.

Sounds like he was not certified and may have been high.

@soldsoul4foos : 2020 is irrelevant. Old story, but the new (and important bit) is the result of the investigation. We don't always see that.

Ditching weights might not have helped, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have lead to a worse outcome. That said, even certified divers drown on occasion after surfacing without air and not being able to get positively buoyant. I'm not sure this guy had any concept of what to do....
