My wife and I are possibly visiting NYC for about a week in late March. Visited once before and was surprised to see that there were some dive shops in the area. Done some digging online and it seems that the NYC/NJ area is a hidden gem for wreck diving.
I reached out to Big Apple Divers on social media- unfortunately, charters don't seem to be really a thing until May, but they gave me some great info on shore diving. Based off of our projected itinerary and timeline constraints if I were to do any shore diving it would have to be very much localized (no trips way out east on Long Island nor down in New Jersey). Beach 8th Street seems like a good option but I have found limited information on other sites. Hopefully I can find some help here and perhaps find some people to coordinate a dive with.
If there ARE charters that run this time of year, I'd definitely be willing to try that to see some of the incredible wrecks I've been reading about.
Background: a shade under 200 dives and certified to 130 feet. I routinely dive doubles and dry suit. Most of my diving background has been in the Pacific Northwest and the Florida Panhandle.
Looking forward to hearing your feedback.
