I just returned from presenting a two-day workshop for science educators, and I think everyone had a blast!
The first morning (Monday) was spent covering reef systems and ocean issues, predominantly as they applied to the Gulf of Mexico and the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. In the afternoon, the session concerned using scuba diving to teach science concepts (Archimedes principle, pressure, density, light absorption, sound characteristics underwater, Boyles law, Newtonian laws, etc...)

But the real fun came on Tuesday when we took the teachers to a pool and did a "discovery dive". They were all as excited as kids and we had a great time. I think more than a few of them are now interested in future certification. Talk about a "hands on" education! Now, if they will only carry that enthusiasm back into the classroom, it'll be a 100% mission accomplished.
