Hi all,
I'm researching a novel that I am currently writing. Can anyone give me the name of a good rebreather that does not reveal your position under water, and is readily available to the public? From what I understand, the Drager Lar V is a great rig, but not commercially available. I would like this part of my novel to be as realistic as possible so I just don't want to make something up.

I do plan on getting certified in scuba this summer as well to learn the ins and outs of the dive world. I must say, the more material I read on this board, the more I want to dive. You all seem like my kind of people.

How do you mean "Reveal your position"? In what way would it? No CCR gives off continual bubbles like OC does. It can on depth change, but that's quite minimal compared to OC.

By "revealing position", I mean air bubbles that are visible from the surface. So, do rebreathers just give up bubbles with a depth change, or will there always be some bubbles coming out?

Magnetic and electronic? You lost me there! Ha, looks like there will be quite a bit to read before I can write this portion of the book.

From CUMA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia :

CUMA (Canadian Underwater Mine-countermeasure Apparatus) (commercially called SIVA+) is a make of rebreather underwater breathing set designed and made in Canada for the Canadian Forces by Fullerton Sherwood Engineering Ltd to replace the Royal Navy CDBA.

From DRDC Toronto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia :

Canadian Underwater Mine-Countermeasures Apparatus (CUMA) is a new diver mine-countermeasures (MCM) diving set with a depth capability of 80 metres (260 ft), as well as being anti-acoustic and anti-magnetic.

Mark 16: military, available to the public, select examples are anti-magnetic.

Um ... how do you all know the OP is not a terrorist? :D

That's why I also won't volunteer anything about modifying swimming techniques to reduce the presence of phosphorescence in warm nocturnal seas in addition to using a rebreather. :eyebrow:

The terrorists have won when we have become afraid of our shadows. Think about it. I refuse to be terrorized by them into looking under every rock and rebreather to see if they are there. The guy says he's from Colorado and his IP originates there. I'm good at taking him at his word.
