That’s too bad about Scuba Lodge. It looks like it would be a great location for a mixture of diving and enjoying the city. But, not a place I would consider based on your experience.

We stayed at Marazul when we went to Curaçao 3 years ago. Doesn’t sound like it has changed any. The quiet, and a full kitchen, are big advantages. Cactus Cafe being next door is nice, also. The stairs leading down to the water, though, can be a bit tough in full kit 😂!

Who did you use for gear while in Westpunt?

In Westpunt I rented from the shop at Playa Kalki about a 5 minute drive away. At Marazul, I found the South set of stairs to the water to be fine. The North set looked a bit steeper and the metal steps at the end looked more like a ladder. It seemed like it would be trickier to get in and out of the water with my cameras. I think Scubalodge was great for onsite shore diving. I just found the surrounding construction to put me off hanging around there on the surface. The other guests at the hotel didn't seem to mind though. One lady was laying on a beach chair looking all relaxed while 2 guys with a jackhammer were breaking up boulders sometimes literally only 6' away. I did appreciate the easy proximity to downtown for walks although I didn't factor in the heat. After about 15 minutes of walking around we found ourselves trying to chase the streets with the most breeze or ducking into stores with air conditioning to try and cool down for a few minutes. I was looking forward to trying all the local food in town, but it seemed like they were all only open for lunch and would be closed by dinner time and then you were left with the "pizza and burger" restaurants. The traffic is pretty bad anywhere around Willemstad too. On weekdays, we were usually stuck in traffic jams when we tried to go to one of the supermarkets. I was hoping to dive the Superior Producer wreck when we were staying at the South end, but since you can't dive it when there is a cruise ship at the nearby dock and the schedule shows cruise ships there every day, it doesn't seem to be diveable anymore. I still think Director's Bay was my favorite snorkel spot and If we spent the whole trip staying up North in Westpunt, I don't think we would have bothered to drive all the way there and we would have missed out.

No, we never made it that far east when we stayed at Marazul, and it’s a bit of a regret. Maybe if we had stayed more than a week, but I’m not sure.

Snorkeling at Marazul with her TG6 camera was what made my wife decide to try scuba, so your video was very special to her. Your video of Director’s Bay has her thinking of changing out Bonaire for Curaçao on next year’s trip!
