Marc, I discovered yesterday that I can flex my strobe arm to the side so the strobe sits on the ground and that stablizes the camera. I will experiment next time to see if I need a weight to make it neutral/negative or not.

That's another way I position my camera. I bend the strobe arm so the different buoyancy of the strobe can act on the camera to hold it at different angles, if that makes any sense.
